Paramahansa Yogananda

"Self-realization is the knowing -- in body, mind, and soul -- that we are one with the omnipresence of God; that we do not have to pray that it come to us, that we are not merely near it at all times, but that God's omnipresence is our omnipresence, that we are just as much a part of Him now as we will ever be.  All we have to do is improve our knowing."
~ Paramahansa Yogananda

Denver Meditation Group Sunday Services began on June 27, 2021

Dear Friends,

Denver Meditation Group (DMG) in-person Sunday services resumed following the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown on June 27, 2021. Services commemorating the birthdays and mahasamadhi's of our Guru's currently are conducted on a Sunday nearest the commemoration date. Our Saturday morning 3-hour meditation currently is held on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays each month. We hope to begin our services on Thursdays as soon as we have enough volunteers to cover these activities. Please stay tuned to our web site for future updates. Following are guidelines for attending our services.

With God and Guru's Blessings,

Managing Council of the Denver Meditation Group.

We have been asked by our SRF headquarters to follow our local Jefferson County guidelines, including:

- The Jefferson County Health Department does not require that facial coverings be worn indoors for our group services, although face coverings are highly recommended.

- The Jefferson County Health Department strongly recommends that all residents ages 2 and older, regardless of vaccination status, return to wearing a mask in indoor public spaces to minimize risk and maximize protection from COVID-19, including the highly infectious Delta variant.

- Seating, with audio, is available on the patio during our Sunday services (weather permitting).

- Hand sanitizing dispensers will be available near the front doors of the chapel and the patio.

- If you are not feeling well, or have been recently exposed to the Covid-19 virus, we ask that you not attend.

- We will not pass baskets around for offertory, but baskets will be available at the back of the chapel following the service. Online donations are possible through the DMG website.

- We plan to have a simple "meet and greet" time outside on the patio following the Sunday service.

- The Bookroom will be open on selected Sundays following services, depending on the number of volunteers to help.

SRF Yoga Meditation in Denver, Colorado

Welcome to the Denver Meditation Group of Self-Realization Fellowship. We are composed of devoted members and friends of Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF), a worldwide religious organization with international headquarters in Los Angeles, California. Self-Realization Fellowship was founded in 1920 by Paramahansa Yogananda for the purpose of disseminating Kriya Yoga, a definite scientific technique for attaining direct personal experience of God. Meditation is a part of every SRF service.

Through its worldwide service and teachings, Self-Realization Fellowship seeks to awaken greater understanding of the harmony underlying all religions, and a fuller expression in this world of the love that unites all people when they realize their oneness in God.

Weekly SRF lessons are available to those who would like to study the SRF teachings. These are sent from SRF international headquarters in Los Angeles, California. The lessons contain techniques for recharging the body, concentration and meditation, and the higher technique of Kriya Yoga, as well as guidance on how to live a balanced material and spiritual life.

For further information we suggest that you visit our Chapel (pictured below) where you can find free literature and a collection of books, tapes and other items for sale in the bookroom. The bookroom is open after the Sunday morning services. Please see our Service Schedule and Welcome Brochure for more information. As an introduction to the teachings of Self-Realization Fellowship, we suggest that you read Paramahansa Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi. Copies of this spiritual classic are available in the bookroom or in bookstores all over the world. More information about Self-Realization Fellowship is also available at www.yogananda-srf.org. These meditation guidelines provide the beginner with some of the basics of meditation from the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda.

Denver Meditation Group Chapel

Pictured below is Paramahansa Yogananda, or Swami Yogananda as he was known at the time in Denver, Colorado. The picture was taken August 23, 1931 in front of the new (at the time) Denver SRF Temple located at 939 Grant Street, just three blocks south of the Capitol building.  Denver Meditation Group services were held every Thursday evening and Sunday afternoons at 3:30 PM. Swami Yogananda gave four free public lectures at the Albany Hotel. The Albany Hotel was built in 1885 and was located on the NE corner of 17th and Stout Streets in the Central business district. There was a "special musical program" preceding each lecture. Swami Yogananda also gave numerous public lectures in Denver during 1924.
